As I live on the Cook Strait, I have very naturally gone through long periods of just painting the coastline and the movements of the water. I enjoy the contrast between the two".
Michael McCormack was born and raised in Ireland. He has a degree in Fine Art from the Crawford College of Art in Cork City, Ireland. Before moving to New Zealand in 2000 he spent two years as an artist in residence in Hawaii. He has held solo shows of his work in Cork, Cornwall, Edinburgh and Wellington and participated in group shows in New York and Hawaii. He works from his Studio and Gallery in Island Bay, Wellington.
